Doodson supports FC Halifax Town in FA Cup first round

Halifax, who currently lies 12th in the Blue Square conference, matched the performance of the once Premiership regulars for most of the game. However, the team eventually fell victim to ruthless finishing and superior fitness as the South London club finished the game off with a flurry of late goals.

An energetic first half from Halifax Town gave their 4,500 loyal home fans real hope as they managed to muster various chances to score a goal in the early stages. But as the game progressed, Halifax simply couldn’t match the intensity shown by their professional opponents who capitalised on every opportunity.

The Yorkshire club entered into the game knowing they were in for a long night, as their opponents rank 60 places higher and two leagues above. However, they worked together and put in a proud and spirited performance and the eventual 4-0 score did not match the effort and committed shown the spirited line-up. Late goals flattered League One Charlton Athletic, but Halifax fans can be proud of their team’s 90-minute display.
