Due to circumstances outside of the team’s control the Yorkshire based team had to make the switch back to the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. With the changes taking place mid season the upheaval and work load was significant as the team took in the task of preparing a 2012 spec British Superbike machine with Motec control electronics and the revised engine rules, as owner and rider Tom Tunstall explained:
“The last week has been hectic, the new engine was run in on the way up to Knockhill and the first free practice session was our first real run out with Motec electronics on the bike. Everyone involved has worked very hard and just getting to Knockhill has been a victory.”
“To set-up the team with a different bike in the middle of the season is a massive challenge to take on and with the rest of the grid already up to speed we’ve got a lot to catch up on. The weekend has been a fine balance between shakedown, testing and racing. An example of which was testing four different engine maps during the 20 minute qualifying session, but was necessary to move forward.”
“As a team we’ve made good progress with the bike in every session, including the races where we still improved the lap time in each outing.”
“It's great to be back on the Honda, the good feeling on the bike is coming back each lap and we’re all looking forward to getting stronger and back to where we should be as the season progresses”.
The hard work continues for the team as they now focus on building machinery, sourcing equipment and growing the team structure in readiness for the next round with the championship where the Doodson backed outfit are looking to field two riders.
With less than two weeks to prepare the challenge will continue as the series makes its second visit to Oulton Park in Cheshire over the weekend of the 6-7th of July.
